In Desperate Need of Dental Work

Wow! Someone who knows how I feel. I am a wife and mother in Maine also. Last year my husband was deliberately run over by someone and he has been out of work since. Before I married my husband I was a single mother as well for quite some time. My problem is also my teeth. As a child there was practically no dental work done what-so-ever, and after I had my daughter my teeth started to get really bed. Two days after I married my husband my teeth started literally falling out. At this point I am missing half of the teeth on top of my mouth. I too am in constant pain, headaches, toothaches, absesses, etc. I cannot find a dentist anywhere around who will fix my teeth without charging me thousands of dollars, and we have nothing. Have you found a way to get your teeth fixed? Where do I even look for help? I just want to be able to smile like everyone else. You are absolutely right - it kills your self esteem. I'm scared to be social or look for work or anything because of how I look when I open my mouth - please e-mail me back. Hope you have found help.

I understand exactly where you're coming from and until reading your post on here felt there weren't many people feeling the same way I do. It's extremely embarrassing not to mention painful. I carry my bottle of tylenol and advil around with me constantly and can't find anywhere even close to my home that may be able to help. Since going back to school I've noticed even more how it effects me being able to perform my clinical duties as well. All that runs through my mind is 'how could anyone want someone taking care of their health if they can't even keep their teeth'. Keep your head up and keep looking for what you want. I know I'm not being any help but I do hope that you know you're not alone in what you're going through.

I have insurance, but it will not cover what I need to have done. I want my smile back. I have dentures on top and a partial on the bottom. My bottom front teeth need work. Also, my dentures make me look like I  have no front teeth when I smile.  I NEED HELP. IS THERE A DENTIST WILLING TO USE ME AS A EXPERIMENT FOR ADVERTISEMENT IN THE EAST TENNESSEE AREA??

Omg!!!!! I am Lisa and from Alabama, sweetie, This is exactly me, I have to drain mine on a daily basis also, I did find a dentist that took me in and let me only pay 25.00 for a discounted office visit.. If u can find a dentist that will give a cash discount when u do have extra cash, which i know u probably dont, i have 3 girls and single also.. but if you do one day, ask the dentist to give u samples of antibiotics from the office, my dentist did that for me, but i had to pay for the pain meds.. of course i went through 3 rounds of anitbiotics and mine is still draining pus, and not any better, but know he acts like i am addicted to just the pain medicine and says i must not have taken all the antibiotics.. I told him he was crazy that i took every one of them and was still in pain and still draining, anyway, that might help for a little time if u can find a dentist that will do that! Just keep your chin up sweetie, maybe things will get better for both us, sometimes i wonder how all these moviestars make such amounts of money like they do, but u cant find not one of them or a rich person to help out the poor in this world, It amazes me! But we will stick together and pray and maybe our glory day is coming, and you put in your mind like i have lately girl, that a man worth having is not going to want u for your mouth but for you and who u are... I know its hard to think that sometimes, but i have talked to quite a few older men lately that seems to geniunely care about my mouth and says that i am still a good person.. In the past, when i was younger i had problems with my teeth as well. My mom could not afford to have my teeth fixed b/c the only things that could fix them were considered cosmetic procedures. My dentist recommended that i go to a dental college. Most of the time they will except patints who have unusual or common teeth/ mouth problems and the advanced dental students will use them as subjects in their papers and projects. The only difference between a real dentist is the pictures they take and the questionaires you have to fill out. It didnt get my teeth fully fixed but it helped me a whole lot.

My daughter has the same problem you have. She lives in Phoenix, AZ and has no dental insurance and she has the same problems you say you do. How the heck is supposed to afford to get her teeth fixed? I've been looking online for any type of "free" dental agencies that could help her, but I guess Arizona doesn't help anyone without insurance. They ALL want some money of some type and that just doesn't help the poor working females, I can only help her so much financially and it makes me sick to think how bad her teeth have gotten, especially since she HAD such beautiful teeth when she lived home in Michigan. But what is one to do, affordable healthcare in the USA is non-existent anymore. I hope someone helps you out, I'm going to keep on checking and hope I find someone for my daughter to go too that won't rob her blind. Good luck.

Income so for those that have little income it’s near free for detail work or it was the last time I used the service you may want to check with a detail school in your area if they have a program like this.

Dear Colleen, I just wanted to tell you that I know exactly how you feel. Be strong and optimistic that one day your teeth will be fixed. I have many problems too and I'm just starting now to get my teeth fixed at almost near 40. I wanted to see if you ever tried to fill out an application at Maine Dental Association. If not, go to www.nfdh.org and click on Donated Dental Service, then click on your state,and get an application. Also, try writing a letter to the co-chairs of Maine Dental Ass. Dr. Mike Bufo or Dr. Jim Helmkamp. That might help. My state of Arizona isn't accepting any applications but the state of Maine is so I hope you give it a try and PRAY a lot. Dental Work I have been insulted twice about my teeth by dentist and both times I have left their office in pain with no antibiotics or pain medication perscriptions. This is the way in America for working people. I make a reasonable wage but with the inflated cost of housing medical insurance and energy I do not have the Cash to pay for two root canels and crowns. Of cource here they except credit cards but not payments. I do not want to loose my teath but I am growing weary of hurting. Thanks for my 30 years of work to this country. The working man has had enough of this. If I do not work there is help. If I do there is none . What is wrong with this picture? I am a state employee.

Hi I am in the same situation you are. I have 2 young children and husband left. i am struggling with tring to have a social life has well. I'm afraid that i will never find someone again because of this problem.I have no clue what to do. I am only 35 and sarting over and with a bad mouth and 2 young children it will be very hard. If you do find a solution could you let me know, i would be unbelievably greatful. charlotte

Some of states have medical/dental help for low income and parents..Dental would all be paid for, i'll check if theres something like that in your state. Also, there are a lot of programs in different cities that have a certain time that you go and they check your teeth and fix everything for free, or for a very low donation, like even 5 bucks.

Colleen - How about relatives, or friends, or classmates, or may be even co-workers? Is there anybody you know that may be able to help you? It might be easier for you this way because you'll be able to talk to people you know... and they could decide how they can help - may be a little money gathered from a few different people. Or, may be people from a local church might be willing to get together and help you. Even if you are not religious, you can still ask for help.
